Well, here we are again: on the golf course, the sun is shining, the birds are singing... and you notice that your club feels slippery as if it's been oiled. The reason could be something other than you sweating in the tee box. Is it time to change your golf grips?

Old grips can be compared to driving on summer tires in winter: old grips lose their grip and stability, which directly affects the quality of your game and also how the club feels in your hand. You hardly want to add 5-10 strokes to your scorecard because of this, when you have to squeeze the clubs really hard and all the relaxation is gone from your swing, right?

When should you really change your golf grips?

Many golfers replace their grips about once a year, but this varies from player to player depending on how many rounds they play. If you notice that your grips are worn, slippery, or have damaged surfaces, it's time to replace them. Also, if you feel that the club doesn't fit as well in your hand as it used to or your control of your shot has decreased, replacing your grips with new ones may be the solution.

Many club players put off changing grips for far too long, and their game suffers unnecessarily. On average, it takes about 50-60 rounds for the grips to be ready for replacement. Of course, this also depends on how much you've been hitting on the range outside of rounds. When was the last time you changed the grips on your golf clubs?

You are probably also wondering how much it costs to change grips. Grips alone cost roughly 10-20 euros per piece, depending on the brand and features, and replacing them can cost an additional 5-10 euros, depending on the location. It is also recommended to change all grips at once, so that you do not have different-feeling clubs in your bag. For this reason, the price can rise to around 200 euros if you have the job done at a shop that offers the service.

Why not change your golf grips yourself?

If you can put on your own pants, you can change your golf grips. By changing your grips yourself, you don't have to pay for someone to do the work for you. You can save up to 100 euros by doing the work yourself. In addition, you can change your grips whenever you want, and you don't have to wait in long lines at golf shops.

Changing golf grips is really quick and easy, even at home. All you need is new grips, grip tape, solvent and a knife to remove the old grips.

How do you change the grips yourself?

1. Remove the old grips: Use a good removal tool or knife to remove the grip. A hooked-bladed carpet knife is a great choice for this.

2. Clean the club shaft: Carefully clean the shaft of the racket from old grip tape and adhesives.

3. Add double-sided tape: Apply double-sided grip tape to the shaft of the club along the length of the grip. Make sure the tape is applied evenly.

4. Attach the new grip: Soak the new grip in solvent and slide it onto the shaft. If you don't have a vise, you can prop the head of the club against a corner to make installation easier. Make sure the grip is straight and fits snugly.

5. Let the grip dry: Let the new grip dry for at least a few hours before using the racket.

You will get all the above mentioned equipment together or separately from our online store. Grips and grip packs will be on sale in August/September.

How to choose the right golf grips?

Golf grips come in different sizes, designs and materials, so there is plenty to choose from. However, there is no one right size or design, you choose the grip that feels good in your hand.

When choosing a grip size, it is a good idea to start with the size of your hand, which will make the choice easier. The Standard size grip is the most commonly used grip size, and the Midsize is better for larger hands.

You should also consider the material and texture. For example, some players prefer a rougher braided surface for better grip, while others prefer softer and more comfortable grips.

    Tips from a professional!

Removing the tape exposed under old grips is easy by heating the shaft with a hair dryer, for example. This will quickly remove the adhesive surface.

Leave a little extra tape over the stem so you can plug the end of the stem. This will prevent water and dirt from getting inside the stem.

If you want to make your grip a little thicker or are in between sizes, you can add more layers of tape under the grip. Many players like to add a few extra layers of tape under the hand.

    PS.

The grips will be available individually and as grip packages including golf grips, solvent, tapes, a grip removal tool and a clamp to secure the club in a vice.
